Thompson Thrift to Develop 327-Unit The Whitmore at Ingleside in North Charleston

Thompson Thrift announced it will develop The Whitmore at Ingleside, a 327-unit Class A multifamily community in North Charleston, South Carolina. The project marks the company’s first development in the state and expands its national footprint to 25 states.

The community will be located within the Ingleside master-planned development on approximately 19 acres near the Weber Boulevard interchange and Interstate 26. According to the release, construction is expected to begin this month, with resident move-ins targeted for November 2027.

“Expanding into South Carolina and reaching 25 states is an important milestone for Thompson Thrift,” said Josh Purvis, managing partner of Thompson Thrift Residential. “We are excited to enter the Charleston market with The Whitmore at Ingleside, a thoughtfully designed community that will meet the region’s growing demand for high-quality rental housing in a well-connected location.”

The development will offer a mix of studio, 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, and 3-bedroom apartment homes in 3-story and 4-story buildings. Units will feature quartz countertops, stainless-steel appliances, hardwood-style flooring, smart-home technology, full-size washers and dryers, walk-in closets, and options for detached garages and private patios, balconies, or yards.

Community amenities will include a resort-style swimming pool, 24-hour fitness center, pickleball court, pocket park, electric firepit gathering areas, grilling stations, pet spa, 2 dog parks, and a resident social hub with billiards, coffee bar, focus suites, and conference room.

The location within the 1,500-acre Ingleside master-planned development provides access to more than 200 acres of green space and integrated commercial, industrial, and recreational uses. The site offers connectivity to downtown Charleston, Charleston International Airport, Palmetto Commerce Park, Joint Base Charleston, Boeing, Mercedes-Benz Vans, and other major employers.

The release cited recent regional economic activity, including Roper St. Francis Health’s $1.2 billion, 328-bed hospital campus in North Charleston, Boeing’s $1 billion expansion, Volvo Cars’ expansion expected to generate approximately 1,600 additional jobs, and KEEL’s $70 million defense manufacturing facility.

The development will be capitalized with equity from the Thompson Thrift 2026 Multifamily Development, LP. Thompson Thrift reports it has invested more than $7.3 billion into local communities over the past 40 years.
