Lewis Apartments Opens 208-Unit Independence Townhome Community in West Sacramento

Lewis Apartments announced the opening of Independence in West Sacramento, a gated rental community of 208 townhome-style homes. The leasing office and model homes opened to the public on October 24, with hours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

The community is located in West Sacramento’s Southport/Bridgeway Island area, directly across the Sacramento River from downtown Sacramento. According to the release, Independence offers rental homes designed for residents who want the space and privacy of a single-family home without homeownership responsibilities and costs.

The homes include 2 and 3 bedroom floor plans ranging from approximately 1,176 to 1,722 square feet. Each unit features private entrances, direct-access 1 or 2 car garages, and private outdoor living spaces.

Interior features include quartz countertops with full-height backsplashes, stainless-steel ENERGY STAR appliances, induction ranges, French-door refrigerators, modern cabinetry, wood-style plank flooring, in-home washers and dryers, walk-in closets and smart-home technology. Garages include EV-charging capabilities, with select homes providing additional garage storage.

Community amenities include a heated pool and spa with shaded cabanas, a 24-hour fitness center and specialty fitness studio, pickleball courts, outdoor barbecue and gathering areas, a fire table, dog park and dog spa, play area, package lockers and a Borrow-a-Bike program.

The location provides access to Downtown Sacramento, the State Capitol, Golden 1 Center and DOCO, Old Sacramento Waterfront, Sutter Health Park and regional employment and healthcare centers. The community also offers access to I-80, I-5 and Highway 50.

Independence in West Sacramento is Lewis’ second Independence rental-home community in Northern California, following Independence in Dixon, which opened in 2025. The company plans to expand the Independence concept to additional Northern California markets, with future communities planned in Folsom, Vacaville, Fairfield, Newark and other locations.

Randall Lewis of Lewis Group of Companies stated, “The success of Independence in Dixon showed us there is strong demand for rental homes that offer more space, privacy and the features people value in a home, without giving up the flexibility and convenience of renting.”
